AGSA’s MISSION

The African Graduate Student Association (AGSA) at Louisiana State University is uniquely positioned to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Africa’s diverse cultures. Our mission is to enrich the educational experience of our members and the wider LSU student body by sharing the rich tapestry of African heritage and contemporary cultural practices.

Our objectives include the following:

1. Cultivating an expansive repository of knowledge about African cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues and disseminating this information through educational events, workshops, and seminars tailored to the interests and academic pursuits of LSU students.

2. Establish AGSA as a vibrant hub for cross-cultural dialog and exchange, where graduate students from various backgrounds can engage in meaningful interactions. We strive to transcend the barriers of ethnicity, nationality, and discipline to build a community that values diversity and inclusivity.

3. Organizing and participating in diverse events, from cultural festivals to academic symposiums, that not only celebrate African cultures but also encourage collaborative learning and understanding among all students. Through these events, we contribute to the global perspective of the LSU community and promote cultural competency.

4. We serve as a caring network for African graduate students and allies at LSU, providing a platform for academic support, professional development, and social engagement.

5. Collaborating with other student organizations, departments, and community groups to amplify the voices of African students and scholars and to advocate for the interests and needs of our members within and beyond the university setting.

By achieving these goals, AGSA aspires to enhance the overall quality of life of LSU students and empower individuals of African descent to share their unique narratives and perspectives, enriching the cultural fabric of our university and the broader society.
