The National Council Negro Women (NCNW) is an "organization of organizations," comprised of 330 campus and community-based sections and 33 national women's organizations that enlightens, inspires, and connects more than 2,000,000 women and men. Its mission is to lead, advocate for, and empower women of African descent, their families, and communities. It was founded in 1935 by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, an influential educator and activist, and for more than fifty years, the iconic Dr. Dorothy Height was president of NCNW.

With a dedicated focus on addressing wrongful convictions, ICLSU confronts a deeply troubling reality that individuals are unjustly imprisoned, often due to underlying factors of systemic racism. The disproportionate impact on Black and Latinx communities, with 64% of those freed with the assistance of the Innocence Project being from these demographics, highlights the deeply ingrained inequities within our legal system. These injustices not only affect the innocent individuals who are wrongfully convicted but also reverberate through their families and communities, perpetuating cycles of trauma and distrust. Twenty-one out of twenty-three exonerations based on DNA evidence in Louisiana involved mistaken eyewitness identifications, showcasing a glaring flaw in the process of criminal justice. The fact that two of these individuals were sentenced to the death penalty underscores the severity of the issue and the dire consequences of such miscarriages of justice. In response to these challenges, the Innocence Club at LSU believes in education and advocacy on these pressing issues. Through outreach efforts, we seek to inform the public about the flaws that lead to wrongful convictions, including witness misidentification, misapplication of forensic science, false confessions, coerced pleas, unreliable informants, inadequate defense, and official misconduct.We aim to push for changes that will address the root causes of wrongful convictions and ensure a fairer and more equitable criminal justice system for all. Fundraising efforts are also a pillar of our organization, as we seek to support the vital work of local organizations connected with The Innocence Network. These funds provide critical resources for legal representation, investigative efforts, and support services for innocent individuals and their families as they navigate the complex process of exoneration and reintegration into society.

NAMI LSU coordinates campus-wide advocacy efforts, monitors the LSU Student Mental Health Care Clinic's available services in an effort to promote its use as a resource, serves as a mental illness information collection and dissemination center, and fosters public education on the issue of mental illness by pressing for individualized treatment for persons with mental illnesses and promoting community support programs which serve to enhance the experience of those on campus suffering from mental illnesses. NAMI LSU seeks to end the stigma against mental illness through education, discussion, and community outreach.

RHA represents all students living on campus and works as a governing body in collaboration with the Department of Residential Life by reviewing and recommending changes in regulations, policies, and physical facilities pertinent and beneficial to students living on campus.

As the second largest student organization at LSU, RHA has a place for everyone. Each residence hall and apartment community have a Community Council – composed of student officers elected by on-campus residents- that represents each hall during RHA general assembly meetings, plans social and educational programs for its community, and works with the community's professional staff to improve the quality of life for residents.
RHA also organizes and sponsors educational, social, and leadership activities of benefit and interest to on-campus residents, like its annual crawfish boil, move-in block party, Homecoming week's Splatterbeat, and more. Social Workers Advocating for Equality (SWAE) is a new student organization within the School of Social Work. Our aim is to provide social work students with opportunities to raise awareness and advocate for causes affecting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community. SWAE is NOT strictly for individuals who identify as LGBTQ. We are also actively seeking individuals who are interested in learning more about how to be a better straight ally. A straight ally is an individual who identifies as heterosexual and believes that all individuals, regardless of their sexual minority status, have the right to equality.  
Our group's goal is two-fold. First, we aim to work with organizations throughout the Baton Rouge area to promote equality for the LGBTQ population. Some of these activities may include signing petitions, letter writing campaigns, social events in conjunction with groups such as Spectrum, EQLA, and the Equality Project, and many others. Second, we aim to provide MSW students with a safe space to come together to discuss issues they may be experiencing. Whether it be in their internships or in their personal lives. We stress that, at all of our meetings, we will respect the input and concerns of members. We will work to uphold the social work values of dignity, integrity, importance of human relationships, competence, service, and social justice.
We are looking for members of varying levels of participation. Come to a meeting and listen to a discussion, or feel free to chime in! This group is about awareness and advocacy, therefore, participation at any level is openly welcome. Our aim is to ensure that all members leave our meetings feeling more culturally competent regarding LGBTQ issues.

With over two million people currently behind bars, the United States remains the largest incarcerator in the world. Additionally, Americans of color continue to face imprisonment at alarmingly disproportionate rates compared to their White counterparts. In particular, Louisiana has the second-largest incarceration rate in the country, only recently unseated as number one in 2018. Tiger Prison Project is a student coalition dedicated to ending mass incarceration, improving the lives of which it has affected, and promoting fair and effective alternatives. Our vision is to ensure a fair and just future for all Louisianans through education, advocacy, and mobilization. By harnessing the power of education, we shed light on the various flaws and consequences of our justice system to our community. As we continue to become more informed of our justice system's effects, we advocate for various methods of meaningful change. In order to restore our community, we give LSU students opportunities to work with local organizations that aid individuals and families negatively impacted by these systems. There is a shared belief between us and our partners that we can and must take action to improve the delivery of justice in our country.
