LEARN MORE ABOUT SLG ON LSU CAMPUS.

How it all got started.

During the Fall semester of 2008, a group of students gathered in the Office of Multicultural Affairs to form an organization that would host an awareness event for the upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month at Louisiana State University. Cerise Edmonds, the Director of Cross Cultural Affairs, led the meeting. After plans were devised to host the event, Cerise issued a challenge to the group. She encouraged the students to get involved at LSU by joining an organization that they identified with, and if they did not find one, she empowered them to create their own. This meeting marks the conception of the idea to bring a multicultural sorority to LSU.

Initial interest was expressed in a Latina sorority, but upon further soul-searching, the group did not want to limit their outreach to just Latina women. With the help of Jerry Whitmore, the Assistant Director of Greek Life at LSU, they did some research and found Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. Although also Latina based, this organization truly reached out to and empowered women of all ethnicities and cultures.

With the help of Angela Guillory, the Director of Greek Life at LSU, a total of 11 women were recruited to join The Interested Ladies of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. at LSU. The interest group worked hard and petitioned for colony status at the end of the Fall 2009 semester. The ladies were recognized as an official colony of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. on March 9, 2010.

They were then assigned an Expansion Advisory Committee that consisted of Colony Operations Advisor, DeNicea "Aziza" Hilton of the Rho Alpha Chapter, Associate Member Educator Alyssa "Soldada" Pulphus of the Alpha Alpha Chapter, and Assistant Associate Member Educator, Grace "Mystique" Quaintance of the Psi Beta Chapter.

On June 12, 2010, two of the 11 ladies were inducted at the African American Cultural Center. The ceremony took place under the guidance of Alyssa "Soldada" Pulphus, Grace "Mystique" Quaintance, Alessandra "X.E.N.A." De La Pava, Samantha "Veracidad" Alexander, and Jilisa "Kezia" Milton.

On August 27, 2010, these two ladies were initiated into Sigma Lambda Gamma as the Founding Line of the LSU Colony at the African American Cultural Center. These ladies were Brittany "Rogue" Foster and JoAnne "S.O.L.E." Busalacchi. Alyssa "Soldada" Pulphus, Grace "Mystique" Quaintance, Marlie "A.N.A.N.D.A." Quintero, Rita "Ardelia" Bautista, and Samantha "Veracidad" Alexander welcomed them into the sisterhood.
