BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana State University Speech and Debate Team continued its successful national season with a standout performance at the Asynchronous Speech Championships, earning a national championship, multiple final-round appearances, and a top-10 team finish.

Competing against programs from across the country in a fully asynchronous format, LSU students demonstrated continued excellence across interpretation, platform speaking, and limited preparation events.

LSU’s performance was highlighted by a national championship in Program Oral Interpretation (POI) earned by Landon Terro, who advanced through a highly competitive field to claim the title. Landon also reached the semifinal round in both poetry and prose interpretation and partnered with Cade Savoy to earn a third-place finish in Duo Interpretation.

Cade delivered one of the most comprehensive performances of the tournament, reaching elimination rounds in five events. Cade advanced to quarterfinals in Communication Analysis and Prose Interpretation, semifinals in Persuasive Speaking, and earned two top-three finishes in final rounds, including third place in Duo Interpretation (with Landon) and second place in Impromptu Speaking. Cade also placed sixth overall in individual sweepstakes.

Senior Roan Guidry advanced to quarterfinals in Extemporaneous Speaking and Informative Speaking and reached semifinals in both Duo Interpretation (with Sam Theriot) and Program Oral Interpretation, demonstrating strong versatility across platform and interpretation events.

Senior Sam Theriot reached quarterfinals in After Dinner Speaking and Program Oral Interpretation and advanced to semifinals in Duo Interpretation (with Roan).

As a team, LSU placed seventh overall in team sweepstakes, underscoring the program’s depth and consistency across events.

The team's director, Associate Professor in Communication Studies Dr. Ashley Mack reflected that: “This tournament reflects the continued momentum of our students across the national circuit. Their ability to excel across asynchronous and traditional in-person national tournaments speaks to their adaptability, preparation, and commitment to excellence.”

The LSU Speech & Debate Team will continue its national championship season with additional competitions this spring.
