BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana State University Speech and Debate Team delivered another strong national performance at the American Forensics Association National Tournament, held April 3–6 at Lewis & Clark College in Portland. Competing at one of the most competitive tournaments in collegiate speech, LSU students advanced deep into elimination rounds and earned national recognition in multiple events.

Cade Savoy led the team with a series of top finishes, advancing to quarterfinals in After Dinner Speaking (ADS) and semifinals in Duo Interpretation (with Landon), Extemporaneous Speaking, and Informative Speaking. Cade also placed third in Communication Analysis (CA) and was named the 12th best individual speaker in the nation based on sweepstakes performance.

Landon Terro earned multiple elimination round appearances, reaching quarterfinals in After Dinner Speaking, Duo Interpretation (with Roan Guidry), Poetry Interpretation, and Prose Interpretation, and advancing to semifinals in Duo Interpretation (with Cade). Landon placed sixth nationally in Poetry Interpretation and was recognized as the 16th best individual speaker in the country.

Roan Guidry advanced to quarterfinals in Duo Interpretation (with Landon) and Impromptu Speaking, continuing a strong national showing in both interpretation and limited preparation events.

As a team, LSU placed 12th overall in national sweepstakes, reflecting the program’s continued competitiveness at the highest level of collegiate forensics.

“The AFA National Tournament represents the pinnacle of collegiate speech competition,” said the team’s director. “Our students rose to that challenge with exceptional performances across events. We are proud of their resilience, preparation, and the way they represented LSU on a national stage.”

The LSU Speech & Debate Team concludes its national championship circuit with one remaining tournament later this season.
