About Us

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Inc. was founded November 17, 1911 at Howard University by three liberal arts undergraduate students (Edgar A. Love, Oscar J. Cooper, & Frank Coleman) with the faculty adviser (Ernest E. Just). From the initials of the Greek phrase meaning "friendship is essential to the soul," the name Omega Psi Phi was derived. The phrase was selected as the motto. Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift were adopted as cardinal principles. The Theta Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity was chartered at LSU on March 12, 1977 by 13 distinguished men and the chapter has since grown to over 150 sons of Theta Kappa. Our chapter has a proud and rich history at LSU, as some of Theta Kappa's members have been trailblazers, not only for our campus, but also for the communities in which we live. We are the first Black Greek lettered fraternity to be founded on LSU's campus, and we are the founders of LSU's National PanHellenic Council. Observing over 40 years of Theta Kappa's existence, we celebrate Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift in the campus of LSU and will continue to celebrate these Cardinal Principles into eternity.
