About Us

The student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) is LSU's chapter of the nation's most broad-based journalism organization, which is dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior among LSU's journalism students. SPJ works to inspire and educate current and future journalists through professional development, mentorship and works to protect First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press through its advocacy efforts. Members may participate in regional and national events such as the Mark of Excellence award, regional and national conventions.

To be a member, students must fill out an application for the national SPJ organization and MOST IMPORTANTLY, complete the Anti-Hazing Trainng by Dec. 31 of each year. For information on joining and an application, contact LSU SPJ Chapter Adviser Freda Yarbrough Dunne at fyarbroughdunne@lsu.edu or Co-Adviser Will Mari at wmari1@lsu.edu Networking with student journalists, educators, working professionals and others planning a career in journalism and mass communication. Twice monthly meetings, annual regional and national conventions with expanded opportunities to meet with journalists and media companies with both internships and jobs.
