OUTLaw's mission is to create a climate at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center
in which it is safe and comfortable to be openly LGBTQIA+. OUTLaw seeks to
create an atmosphere of acceptance and comfort, instill justice, and combat
discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender
expression. The organization exists to provide support and a sense of community
while simultaneously engaging in political activism and advocacy.

Mission
Social Workers Advocating for Equality (SWAE) is a new student organization within the School of Social Work. Our aim is to provide social work students with opportunities to raise awareness and advocate for causes affecting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community. SWAE is NOT strictly for individuals who identify as LGBTQ. We are also actively seeking individuals who are interested in learning more about how to be a better straight ally. A straight ally is an individual who identifies as heterosexual and believes that all individuals, regardless of their sexual minority status, have the right to equality.┬á┬á
Our group's goal is two-fold. First, we aim to work with organizations throughout the Baton Rouge area to promote equality for the LGBTQ population. Some of these activities may include signing petitions, letter writing campaigns, social events in conjunction with groups such as Spectrum, EQLA, and the Equality Project, and many others. Second, we aim to provide MSW students with a safe space to come together to discuss issues they may be experiencing. Whether it be in their internships or in their personal lives. We stress that, at all of our meetings, we will respect the input and concerns of members. We will work to uphold the social work values of dignity, integrity, importance of human relationships, competence, service, and social justice.
We are looking for members of varying levels of participation. Come to a meeting and listen to a discussion, or feel free to chime in! This group is about awareness and advocacy, therefore, participation at any level is openly welcome. Our aim is to ensure that all members leave our meetings feeling more culturally competent regarding LGBTQ issues.

Spectrum empowers and supports LSU lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and asexual/aromantic (LGBTQA+) communities as well as their allies, by providing social support, education, programming, and opportunities to participate in campus and community activism.

Spectrum is┬áan organization with over 100 active members, and has successfully organized programs, classroom panels, campus-wide forums, lobbying campaigns at the state legislature, and a statewide conference (the Louisiana Queer Conference, or LAQC). Whatever your interest is in the LGBTQ community at LSU, Spectrum has a place for you!
