Chapter Involvement

HOSA’s mission is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience. HOSA actively promotes career opportunities in the health industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.

Community Service & Volunteering

We are dedicated to giving back through projects such as hospice volunteering, health fairs, and local outreach initiatives. Members also participate in unique service opportunities like Go Baby Go, where custom toy cars are built for children with disabilities, and collaborations with local hospitals and clinics.

On-Campus Engagement

LSU HOSA plays an active role on campus through Welcome Week recruitment, tabling events, and partnerships with organizations like the Student Health Center. We also host guest speakers and professional panels, including physicians, nurses, healthcare administrators, and more!

Professional Development

Members gain valuable experience through state, regional, and international HOSA conferences, networking events, and skill-based workshops such as CPR training, suturing, and first aid. Our partnerships, including with LSU Sports Medicine for shadowing and volunteering, provide hands-on learning experiences. We also provide resources for professional school preparation, including mentorship from health professionals and LSU students.

Collaboration with the Community

We connect with the broader Baton Rouge community through partnerships with local health organizations and high schools to inspire and mentor future healthcare professionals. Our High School Mentorship Program helps guide students toward careers in medicine and healthcare while strengthening the pipeline between secondary education and LSU.

Competitions

HOSA’s Competitive Events Program includes more than 80 events across health science, emergency preparedness, health professions, and leadership. These practical, skill-based competitions test students’ abilities in medical emergencies, clinical procedures, and patient interactions while helping build confidence and strengthen resumes. At LSU, members compete not just for themselves, but for the university, representing LSU at the Louisiana HOSA State Leadership Conference and, for those who qualify, at the International Leadership Conference. These events provide hands-on experience, foster teamwork, and showcase the chapter’s commitment to excellence in healthcare education.

HOSA Scholarships

HOSA scholarships recognize members for their achievements, create opportunities for personal growth, and help alleviate the financial burden of education. Join the hundreds of HOSA members who applied in 2023, with 92 receiving scholarships totaling $111,500 from 32 sponsors. In addition, the U.S. Army awarded 30 scholarships to HOSA members, totaling $3,127,696.

Social & Member Bonding

Beyond academics and service, we foster community within our chapter through socials and team-building events—creating a family-like environment that supports members both personally and professionally.
