About Us

With over two million people currently behind bars, the United States remains the largest incarcerator in the world. Additionally, Americans of color continue to face imprisonment at alarmingly disproportionate rates compared to their White counterparts. In particular, Louisiana has the second-largest incarceration rate in the country, only recently unseated as number one in 2018. Tiger Prison Project is a student coalition dedicated to ending mass incarceration, improving the lives of which it has affected, and promoting fair and effective alternatives. Our vision is to ensure a fair and just future for all Louisianans through education, advocacy, and mobilization. By harnessing the power of education, we shed light on the various flaws and consequences of our justice system to our community. As we continue to become more informed of our justice system's effects, we advocate for various methods of meaningful change. In order to restore our community, we give LSU students opportunities to work with local organizations that aid individuals and families negatively impacted by these systems. There is a shared belief between us and our partners that we can and must take action to improve the delivery of justice in our country.
