Food Insecurity in Greater Baton Rouge

The LSU Food Pantry is accessible to all students regardless of financial status. The link to place an order can be found here.

Project 225 has partnered with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank in order to serve 11 parish areas for more than 35 years.

We are partnering with Buchanan Elementary School to participate in the Backpack Program. Many EBR students rely on free school breakfasts and lunches for meals. The Backpack Program ensures that these students and their families also have food for dinner. Volunteers are needed every Monday from 1:30-3:00 pm at Buchanan Elementary to pack and distribute food supplies for elementary school students experiencing food insecurity. Apply here or contact Madelyn Phillips at mphil67@lsu.edu.

The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank continuously receives food donations from generous donors that help keep their shelves stocked for those in need. All donated food must be thoroughly checked before our agencies can process it. Help us sort and categorize all of the non-perishable food items to immediately help those who are hungry! This volunteer activity involves checking dates on food, moderate lifting, and walking in the warehouse. The date currently reserved for Project 225 is Saturday, March 25th, from 8 am-12 pm. Click here to sign up for either of these dates. We will meet in front of Laville at 7:15 am to figure out carpooling. If you can drive, please contact Emily Demps at edemps1@lsu.edu. We ask that volunteers wear an LSU shirt.
